A Journey Through the Northern Lights: Robert Lee’s Aurora Adventures and Artistic Reflections

On 23^rd November, Mr. Robert Lee, known as the “Aurora Collector,” was invited to share his experiences in a lecture entitled A Journey Through the Northern Lights. During the talk, Mr. Lee guided the audience through Iceland’s stunning landscapes, exploring the enchanting charm of the Northern Lights. He also shared insights into his personal journey and creative stories accumulated over the years.

The lecture opened with the breathtaking beauty of Iceland’s geography. Renowned for its dynamic and intricate terrain, Iceland is a prime destination for aurora hunting, particularly around the spring (March) and autumn (September and October) equinoxes. Its glaciers, volcanoes, waterfalls, hot springs, geothermal features, and peculiar rock formations serve as natural stages for the auroras. Mr. Lee’s photographic works vividly captured this ethereal beauty: from Blue Falls and the Green Chapel by the roadside to the midsummer Stonehenge, each composition featuring the Northern Lights left the audience in awe.

Mr. Lee sees the aurora not merely as a natural phenomenon but also as a spectacular visual feast of colours and shapes. During the lecture, he showcased photographs of auroras in shades of blue, green, pink, red, and multicolored displays, accompanied by music to highlight the rhythm and harmony within the light, creating an unprecedented immersive experience for the audience.

Beyond his captivating photographs, Mr. Lee shared that creativity is a projection of one’s state of mind. For him, auroras are like canvases of the soul, interweaving emotions, poetry, and mythology. Each aurora is akin to a deeply emotional painting: “A Canvas of Thoughts” reflects his yearning for his mother, “A Canvas of Poetry” captures poetic and artistic imagery through radiant colours, and “A Canvas of Words” evokes mythical and symbolic connections.

Growing up in a nurturing family environment, he developed a love for reading and poetry, which became the foundation of his artistic and creative endeavours. For Mr. Li, the journey of chasing auroras is anything but monotonous. Sometimes, auroras take centre stage; other times, they play a supporting role, resembling wine poured into a glass or jewels resting on fingertips. By transcending mere images, his documentation of auroras becomes an artistic interpretation of life itself.
